UNDER OMINOUS SKIES, AT A POOL PARTY, LAST SATURDAY, we found ourselves discussing – or trying to convince – some fellow guests about the beauty of going socks-less during the warm months. And in that lied our Achilles’  heel (pun intended!) because unless you live on the moon, this summer has been so far, quite pathetic. With its stormy, muggy skies and damp, humid air. It’s like we’ve got the tropical weather without the actual heat. Too hot not to turn on the AC, but once it’s on, it’s damn cold!.. But we digress.

Truth is, whether the climate (is that yet another pun!?) likes it or not, we, the WKF team, are soldiering on and refusing to put on our colourful fantasminis. Except if it’s sandals! Ah! The irony of fashion… Just when we thought we’d brave the at best spring-like temperatures, the fashion gods would have us wear our stripped down summer soles with socks. Lucky coincidence we say! Just make sure they’re black!

While we’re on the subject of bare feet, slide them into your loafers to get that superb, unbeatable belli ragazze look. All the uomo and donna’s at Pitti will have nothing on you. Suede is also a brave, counter intuitive option that works well, because, really, in the end suede is leather… And certainly better than rubbers and plastics in terms of breathability. Derbies have a more casual look to them, mostly with vivid colourful soles, giving you that extra, subtle je ne sais quoi.

Finally, runners, make sure their bright and/or busy. And by all means, pair them with your suits if you can as we’re sure you’re game. Given the built and materials of most sneakers, you may need to wear socks after all. If so, stick with short ones that go unnoticed. We hear Falke make great ones…
